as a friend and nothing more.

When you're alone
with him some time, just casually say, "I was thinking, how
come we've never dated?"
- If he gives
you 20 good reasons why you've never dated – such as "I'm
married" or "I'm gay" – then it wasn't meant
to be – but your friendship is intact. "Yeah,
that's right," you respond casually.

If he has been
waiting for the moment, he may say, "Yeah, why haven't we
dated?" and you've got an
opening.
