I'm with you; I HATE those mixed messages.  Don't those 14-year-old boys know what they want yet? What's wrong with them to be as confused as teenage girls?

She should just ask him a direct question.

Fortunately for you, it sounds like he's being perfectly clear.  If what you described isn't some really heavy like, then I must have passed up my pre-pubescent years.  You don't want him teased unmercifully by all his buds by admitting that he actually likes you, do you?

I think that's a great idea.

If you think he's cool and that you would like to go out with him, the next time he makes you "guess who", say "is this someone who would like to go to the movies on Friday night?" and see what he says.
