Talking to
strangers, especially ones we are interested in, is always
hard!
Do you see this girl outside of this one class? If
not, I suggest you use things in the classroom to start a
conversation about. For example:
You: That test/quiz/paper was kind of tough.
How did you do?
Girl: I don't know. (You can't expect
her to jump into the conversation all at once!)
You: I'm hoping for an A - I'm hoping to be
accepted to Harvard (or whatever, some kind of information
about you relevant to school/class)
Girl: Really? I'm going to go to _____
if I can get in. (or I don't plan to go to college, or something
relevant).
There.
Now
each of you has a little bit of information about the other
that you can use for further conversation. One thing to
remember is that people ALWAYS like it when you remember something
about them - it makes them feel like you were paying attention
and you care. So next time you have the chance to talk,
bring up whatever she said and ask her another question about
it.
The alternative way to approach her is to wait until she
is talking to someone
you both know, then insert yourself into the conversation.
This one takes a little less courage but is risky - who knows
when it could happen?
Good luck. Once you have mastered talking to strangers
you will be well on your way to meeting lots of interesting
people, aceing job interviews, running for president . . .
Ok, no need to go overboard.
