You are right about one thing... This is a game. (The classic dating control game.) Unfortunately, there is little you can do to gain "control".

The best thing you can do is to not fall all over him, as you said. If you know he has your number, he'll give you a call if he is interested. No need to chase him!

If he is simply a "user" type and is stringing you along, then you don't want him anyway. If he really does want to get to know you better, he will call you. You said you weren't interested in a serious relationship anyway, so treat him as you would any other friend: just relax and enjoy the time you do have with him.
