I am the author of this question. Thanks for all the advice.

I ended up telling him the truth ( I was very nice about it) and he denied his feelings for me (even) though he had already admitted them.

Now he won't speak to me and barely even looks at me. I left it up to him to stay friends but obviously he doesn't want to.

So thanks for all your help.

Unfortunately, the truth isn't always what people wish to hear but you live and learn.
