You mentioned that you were afraid. Totally normal..

A Reader Responds:

Never Be Afraid Of Having Sex

I disagree with Mel. No one should be AFRAID to have sex, or lose their virginity.

Be cautious yes, be wary, think carefully about the decision, but ultimately making love with someone you care about can be wonderful. No one seems to be pointing that out!

Don't ever be AFRAID of having a physical relationship with someone - that can just lead to deeper problems which will complicate future relationships.

Make The Decision Carefully

Exercise healthy care, take appropriate precautions. Take a long hard look at the person you intend losing your virginity to - will they look after you, care about you? If the answer's yes, then I think you're both ready.

Having a physical relationship with someone can be rewarding and joyous - be careful, but don't be afraid.

Good luck!
