Dear In-The-Red Blues,

I Cancelled My Plans To Slap Her

We are SO lucky to have Mr. Sensitive. I was purchasing my airline tickets, almost out the door, when Mr. Sensitive phoned me and told me that flying out to slap your mother-in-law-to-be around was going to make things worse. Rats.

Why Worry About Paris?y mother-in-law to be insists

For once, I agree with you, Lefty. The child rearing costs are a much bigger issue.

And then, as cooler heads often do, I started to look at the big picture. With a baby on the way, don't you have more things to worry about than a wedding and a trip to Paris?

I agree; maybe she should sell the ring to finance the wedding.

It's time to start doing a little planning here instead of continually reacting to your situation. What are you going to do for money once the baby is born? Do some more favors for your mother-in-law?

If he is worried about their materialism then the only decision that makes sense is to leave this relationship.

Listen, if you want your child to be as materialistic as your fiance and mother-in-law-to-be seem to be, then you're on the right track. Otherwise, take a look at what you have and what you need, involve your "smart" fiance in your decisions, and do the "right" things.

Plan On Not Letting Her Make You Cry Uncle

I don't think that what your mother-in-law-to-be is doing is exactly "blackmail", because she doesn't have any dirt on you. Yet. Do some planning and don't let your mother-in-law-to-be make you cry "uncle". Because you'll be crying uncle for a long time.
