"Poor communication" my ass. Peter just wanted her for sex,
and when he answered Alenka's question "Do you love me?"
with "no", it was the truth.

Testing Him
Now that he can't
get the sex (as evidenced by his physical contact -- touching
her leg -- AFTER she told him she wanted to just be friends)
he's desperate. He had a good woman and STILL doesn't realize
it. Alenka is testing him by seeing if they have enough
in common for a friendship, and it's obviously not enough
for his happy pants.
What Peter is
asking is how to get her back in bed. It's not going to
happen. He didn't love her, and he doesn't even know what
love means if he can't respect her request to cool it.
He destroyed
a beautiful thing: her trust.
