A Reader Responds:
She's Not Complaining About Size or Value
I disagree. There is nothing materialistic about wanting
a ring that suits your personality and style. If she were
complaining about the size and value of the ring, then I
would agree with your saying she is being materialistic.
This Is Easily Solved
I think this is a fairly easy problem to resolve. If her
husband wants her to keep that ring because it's the one
he originally gave her and because it was "blessed",
then they just need to take a trip to the jeweler.
Jewelers Can Work Magic
Numerous changes can be made to rings to completely change
how they look. All she needs to do is tell the jeweler what
she wants and chances are they'll be able to make it happen.
I did it with my engagement ring and it was pretty painless.
If for some reason they can't make the modifications wanted,
then they can do what my mother did.
She had her ring dismantled, had the metal melted, and
hand the entire setting changed and the diamond remounted.
It's A Compromise
Either way it's still the same "blessed" ring.
It's just undergone a slight metamorphosis. It seems to
me to be a compromise both husband and wife would be happy
with.
