Dear RC,

It Takes Me More Than 2 Months

2 months? Maybe I'm just slow, but it takes me more than 2 months to find out the guy's middle name and whether he hates onions.

Slow Down

What I'm trying to say is, slow DOWN, girl! Take some time to get to know the man before you decide he's not for you. Give it at least THREE months. (Please don't take that literally. Please? I was being sarcastic.)

Real Love Takes Longer To Realize

While not quite as cynical, I do agree that some couples take more time to realize they are right for each other.

So far as those people who knew right away that their person was the one, revisit them in a few years and see if they still say that. I hate to sound like a cynic (too late!), but I find it difficult to believe that you could know right away that you're completely compatible with someone. You could know immediately that you're attracted, even infatuated, but real love will take longer.

A Dog That Plays Basketball

Don't even get me started on movies. In the movies, LL Cool J was trapped in an oven by super-intelligent sharks, and a golden retriever beat a bunch of kids at basketball. (He DID have quite a jump shot!) These items are AT LEAST as plausible as "love at first sight".

Don't Give Up So Soon

Bull! She should leave now if there's no spark.

Anyway, the point is this: Don't give up on this guy right away. After more time, you may decide that he's "the one" or that he's just a really good friend. Or you may decide he's a total loser and that you want nothing to do with him.

Regardless, if you do it right, it should take much more than 2 months to find out.
