Dear Patricia,
It's so coincidental that I have been asked to answer this question,
because I just had a similar conversation with a friend of mine.
She is upset because she thinks no one wants her because she is
blind. I will tell you what I told her.
You Won't Appeal to Everyone
Unless you are the supermodel type (and I suspect even they have
their own set of problems, not being loved for who they are inside,
getting treated like they're stupid, etc.), some people will just
not be interested in you.
Fewer Toads
It is not your fault, we all have to deal with this, to some extent.
The more we are out of the mainstream of conventional beauty, the
fewer choices we have. But look at it this way, we have to wade
through fewer toads than others!
A Positive Attutude Atttracts People
I am by no means immune to the feeling that I am not attractive
to as many men as I would like. But never underestimate what a positive
attitude can do. I found that when I was happier and more at peace
with myself, others saw that and were attracted to me more often.
Realize that you are wonderful and can emotionally provide exactly
what someone has been waiting for.
Others in Wheelchairs Have Found Love
Like Aerosmith
says, the light at the end of the tunnel could be you. I believe
there is a lid for every pot, and if you keep your wits about you
and don't despair, you will find yours. After all, other people
in wheelchairs have found love, haven't they? It's not unheard of,
right?
You Need To Focus On Your Value
The problem my friend has is that she thinks her blindness makes
her too much of a burden for someone to love. I think her attitude
is creating a self-fulfilling prophecy. Physical perfection is very
nice, I'm sure, but don't undervalue the unique gifts you have to
give.
Everyone Has Preferences
Please remember that no matter what you look like, you will not
be the type for some men. You have preferences, right? Well, men
are allowed to have them, too. Don't take it personally, or as a
reflection of your attractiveness, just stay out there and don't
lose your patience.
Happy hunting!!
Patra
