Reader's Response

Jody said:

"It is however a sin to engage in sexual relations (even mentally) with a woman who is not your wife. "

A Reader Responds:

A Thought Cannot Be A Sin

There is no such thing as "mental" sexual relations. You have engaged in nothing by thinking. A thought cannot be a sin, only a deed.

The good person isn't good because they never think of the wrong thing - they're good because they never (or as infrequently as possible) DO the wrong thing.

Jody's View Leads to Unwarranted Shame and Guilt

This whole thing about being a sinner from thoughts alone is appalling, it creates terrible repression, shame and guilt when you haven't actually done anything!

You are allowed to think whatever you like, you're just not allowed to do whatever you like.

Down with the thought police!
