Many, many guys are more
comfortable with women as friends than as "girlfriends."
In some cases, boys think of women they want to have sex with as
objects and the women they love as just good friends and never the
the same person. Once you two admitted your feelings for each other,
it sounded like it freaked him out.

Bottom line? He's immature,
he's manipulative, he's neurotic, and you would do very well to
forget him – believe me.
Long distance relationships
with people in college suck! When I was your age, I dated an older
girl who went off to college. Almost immediately everything changed,
and I spent the rest of that year too wimpy to break up with her.
We even tried to reestablish our relationship when I went to the
same college, but that failed miserably. I wish I had forgotten
her.
