What is statutory rape, and why?

Although I thought I was ready, I wasn't. I believed anything he told me and am now paying for it. The fact is that I was naive at that age even though I thought I knew everything (typical teenager)

Reader MissyClar Responds:

I just watched a Frontline program about the lost children of a suburban town in Georgia, and a lot of the stories on it reminded me of yours.

Among the sexually promiscuous teens and pre-teens, a few of the girls interviewed often had reactions like, "I was drunk, I didn't know what I was doing" (avoiding responsibility) and also things like, "sex isn't fun for girls..it's just something I did".

Anyway, it seemed like the main problem for the girls was that they didn't know how to stop the guys from doing what they were doing. they couldn't even THINK that maybe they were worth something, or that they could tell a guy "I value myself, stop."
