Should I go out with my ex's best friend?

Annie Answers:

Dear Turtle Girl,

Tough question.

Give Your Ex Time To Breathe

Mamala

If she gives him time to breathe, it won't help. Men get worse with age.

Getting in the middle of friendships is always hard. It seems to me as though Riley is being a little bit unreasonable. He's holding onto a relationship that is over. But maybe he just needs a little time. I think you might want to give him a little time to breathe right now.

Let the New Guy Decide

You should sit Mark down and tell him that you don't want to hurt his friendship with Riley, but that you would like to go out with him. In the end it is Mark's decision, because it is his friendship.

After you talk to Mark, you might want to talk to Riley. Tell him that you two had a good relationship, but now it is over. You would like to stay friends with him, but you two both need to be able to date other people. Tell him that it hurts you to have to come between him and Mark, but that he doesn't have control over that part of your life anymore.

Make Your Own Decisions

Buddy

Get a clue. She's already made her decision, and is looking to us for validation.

After you have had a talk with both of them, I think you should do what your heart tells you to do. Riley can't run your life anymore, you need to make your own decisions.

If Mark thinks that it would ruin his friendship with Riley, then maybe you and Mark should wait until Riley gets over your dating relationship. But if Mark is willing to take the chance, then I think you should go out with him.

In time, Riley will find someone who he wants to date, too. Time will heal anything.

Good Luck!

Annie
