Dear I Quit,
The real question is: are you fulfilled and happy? Because I don't
believe that having a romantic relationship is a requirement for
fulfillment and happiness. I do believe that
meaningful relationships are (hermits will disagree).
Meaningful relationships can take many forms, and I'd hate for
you to give up on finding, developing, and nurturing those relationships.
Do You Want a Family?
If you are fulfilled and happy, or can see yourself fulfilled and
happy without romance, a marriage, and kids, that is just fine.
If, however, you see yourself as being miserable without the chance
for love in your life, I wouldn't rule it out yet.
Therapy Is A Good Idea
The idea of therapy might not be bad. I'm not saying there is anything
wrong with you, just that talking with a therapist would be an opportunity
to explore the areas of life that you find meaningful and find ways
to incorporate them so you feel fulfilled.
Your Friends are Too Judgmental
Tell your friends to stop being so judgmental. There are many different
lifestyles out there, and the one that is right for them may not
be right for you (and the one that is right for you might change
over time).
On the other hand, if they are worried about you because you seem
sad or lonely, they may be on to something. Just be honest with
yourself and willing to fight for
the lifestyle that is right for you.
