Dear Sondra and Stephen,
Wow! Great question. You both have great points.
It is a commercial holiday. You should be able to show
love every other day of the year. And you can.
It's a Woman's Holiday
Let me talk to my man here. Valentine's Day is more of a woman's
holiday. As men we need to try to understand this.
You are right about the bull involved in the holiday. But if you
have these beliefs then you shouldn't be celebrating any other holiday
which I am sure is not the case.
Look at it this way. If you do decide to celebrate, you go against
a small belief, but you make the most important person in your life
happy. That in itself is worth it. Don't do it for you! Do it for
her.
Celebrate for Her, Not You
Tell you the truth, Valentines Day means nothing to me. I don't
get excited at all for it. But what I do is make it as special as
possible for my girlfriend. I don't think we understand how they
feel about the day. Like a lot of the other holidays we should be
celebrating every day.
It Doesn't Have To Be Commercial
You don't need to fall into the commercial trap. You can pick
flowers, make dinner in, make your own card, and go for
a walk. Listen, women don't care about the Super Bowl.
To them it is like every other football game. To us it is not.
Try to put yourself in her shoes. This Valentine's Day you have
a guarantee to give your wife one of the best days of her life.
Look past your beliefs my brother. We all have to!
Jimmy
