Dear Wounded Karma,

Dude, I had to read this three times to get the gist of it all. She was killed in an explosion? Are we talking Kosovo, Bosnia, Sri Lanka? Faking your death seems a extreme for an online love, BUT, with love, insanity is the norm. You're right. It does sound insane that all those things happened to her in one year's time, but it is certainly possible. It's like a John LeCarre novel, and you, my man, may be the Naïve and Sentimental Lover.

Maybe Your E-mail Was Blocked

I'm curious. Were her final e-mails to you responsive to what you had said in your final e-mails? What I mean is, did you sense any doubt your e- mails weren't getting through to her before you heard she was dead?

Maybe your emails were blocked or intercepted causing her to believe you were no longer interested and you are just being fed a line by Lucky and Mike. They are suspect. Plus, can you truly believe someone you communicate with online?

Do you have any independent proof Missy was in theater, i.e. theater house playbills, acting troops that may have known her, productions, etc.? Did she directly refer to Lucky as her brother in any e-mail? Do you have her photo? Place of birth and birth date? Date of death?

Find Out What Happened

Shaggy

Why bother? She's either dead, or a liar.

You need a trail to find someone because no matter where they are, people bleed words, which find their way to paper. Try to get hooked up with someone through the international press in that country. Associated Press, CNN, Reuters or somebody will have reported or known something about an explosion that killed four people. Get in touch with the American Red Cross and see if they can hook up with a chapter in the country to learn anything. Get online and try to find someone or something that can translate her language.

Explain the situation, copy the latest article you found to them and ask if they know anyone in the country whom you could contact. Try a college professor that speaks the language. Maybe she or he will know who wrote the article or have a way to contact someone connected with the theater troop or involved in theater in her country. Perhaps they can friend-of-a-friend contact with someone who lived near her town or province.

You need to develop other sources beyond Mike and Lucky to verify whether or not she's alive. Of course given your explanation, you've most likely exhausted the above options.

You May Have Been Dumped

Worst case scenario: She's an actress playing a 1 1/2 year role. Put two and two together and realize you've been bamboozled, or just dumped. Move on and tell this one to you grandkids.

Tommy D Her Family Might Not Like You

Best case scenario (if you can call it that): The family didn't like you and unbeknownst to her, told you she was dead and told her you didn't want to see her again. It's happened before in fact and fantasy. Or maybe they just ordered her to stop seeing you.

Exhaust All Avenues

Jennae

Come on! This is too much. He has to move on.

What would I do? Geez, you WOULD ask that wouldn't you, Karma? I'd exhaust all avenues. Find out the real deal. Call the U.S. embassy in her country. Call John McCain. Heck, call Stephen Sondheim.

The question you must ask is: How badly do I want to know the truth and how far am I willing to go to know it? Do I care enough to risk being a schmuck or learning that I've been played like a sucker just to know? Because you CAN know, Karma. And let's face it, what else on this planet is worth making a fool of yourself over except love?

I hope you get a few good breaks. Good luck and wishing you the best.
