Judith Answers:

Dear Susie,

The main thing is to learn to live with yourself again. Something in your emotional world imploded and you have to build yourself back up again.

Therapy Will Help You

Summer

Actually, they would probably both benefit from couples counseling.

Therapy will help but you need to make a commitment to yourself to learn to make yourself happy, deal with problems less destructively, and become a mature and reliable adult that your son can rely on.

Do This First

Only after you have committed to this can you begin to commit to someone else.

There is no reason it shouldn't be your ex; you have a lot of history and obviously a lot of feelings for each other, too.

You're Not Ready To Work On The Relationship

But I really don't see that you are ready for that yet, or to be making promises when you don't know what will happen down the road.

Get yourself together. Spend time on you. Learn to live for you. Then you can share yourself with someone else.
