This is a problem many people face. Your friend has to realize that if he likes you, race shouldn't get in the way. If the boy likes you, then he likes you for who you are and not your nationality.

Move On

My advice is to move on, even though I know it will be hard. Why would you want to be with someone who is insecure about being around you for who you are? I can't think of a logical explanation for it.
