Dear KK,
It is wonderful when you can find a friend who you can be yourself
around, and that special person accepts you just as you are. I'm
sorry to say that the boy you wrote in your note is not that person.
Obviously, and despite what you might think, you are NOT able to
be yourself around each other. The fact that your "fully white"
friend, the object of your affection, cannot consider you for a
love interest because of what people might think or say, is very
revealing.
Why Would You Want A Friend Like Him?
Why would you want to be with someone who does not accept the pigment
of your skin or worries so much about what others may say, despite
his own good feelings towards you?
He's Shallow
This is a shallow view. I would not want a friend, or a boyfriend,
who could not see below the surface of the skin and who stopped
in his tracks because of what people might think or say because
of a racial difference.
Think about this carefully and honor yourself enough to know that
the type of thinking your friend is having is wrong. It was wrong
100 years ago. It was wrong 20 years ago. It is still wrong, and
it is still sad that things haven't changed that much in 2002.
Look For Someone Else
Look for someone worthy of you and someone who doesn't worry so
much about what others might think because of a skin pigment difference.
