Dear Johnny,

The two of you, right from the start, agreed that your relationship would end when she went off to college. Now, unfortunately, that time has arrived.

Accept Her Dicision

Lani

Right. And if he does persuade her to stay together, she'll end up resenting him.

It's sad, but it's clear that your girlfriend has made up her mind. No amount of convincing on your part will make a difference. She told you long ago that she didn't want to be attached when she goes to college. And she won't be, simple as that.

I'm sorry the news isn't better. But know this: Only two years ago, I was also a student at the University of Illinois at Champaign. (I was College of Law, class of 2000.) So I know firsthand that there are lots of attractive, available women there.

You Will Meet Someone Else

My advice to you is to move on. Soon enough, you'll meet someone new. Although it may seem like your current relationship is the be-all and end-all, you'll find that there are other people out there who will make you just as happy.

Best of luck,
